Critical Care Medicine Fellowship–Everett

The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s community-based critical care medicine fellowship provides high-quality training in a subspecialty of internal medicine dedicated to the diagnosis, management, and prevention of long-term complications in severely ill patients.  

Designed for graduates of internal medicine or emergency medicine residencies, the two-year program prepares physicians to manage critical illness in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting to achieve optimal patient outcomes while prioritizing patient well-being and dignity.  

Mission

To develop, recruit, and train highly skilled, compassionate, and collaborative critical care physicians for the communities of the state of Washington.

Program Highlights

  • Train at a premier regional hub for critical care in Puget Sound, gaining exposure to a range of patient populations and services 
  • Prepare for the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Critical Care Medicine Certification Exam to become board-certified 
  • Gain advanced knowledge and procedural expertise in the clinical management of high-acuity patients with complex medical conditions through core and customized specialty rotations 
  • Practice multidisciplinary collaboration and learn to lead interprofessional teams to ensure the holistic care of critically ill patients  
  • Engage in scholarly inquiry and impactful research that advances critical care practice and enhances patient outcomes and quality of life 
  • Teach and supervise residents on a critical care rotation through the program’s collaborative relationship with the WSU College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program–Everett

Clinical Learning Environment

Our fellowship is based at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE), a 580-bed, high-acuity referral center serving the communities of Washington’s Snohomish, Island, San Juan, Skagit, and Whatcom counties.  

As a comprehensive adult care facility (excluding organ transplant), PRMCE offers fellows a dynamic and immersive clinical experience. Rotations span the full spectrum of critical care, including Cardiovascular, Medical, Neuro, and Surgical and Trauma ICUs, and dedicated time for procedures and electives, ensuring well-rounded, hands-on training in every facet of critical care medicine. 

ACGME Accreditation

The Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program–Everett is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in good standing with an accreditation and recognition status of Initial Accreditation.
