Standard Operating Procedure Guidelines and Procedure for GME Faculty Support

Purpose

This procedure provides guidelines on support for core faculty in GME and have a paid faculty appointment in the College of Medicine at Washington State University for the residency or fellowship program. 

Procedure 

All paid GME core faculty, including Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, and Assistant Program Directors employed by WSU for the training program are entitled to receive support by the WSU College of Medicine to provide essentials needed for administrative and professional development. This can include medical license fees, society membership(s), resources for professional development, and resources for CME. This is further specified the appointment letter, position description, and in the table below.

0.2 FTE – 0.49 FTE 

  • Medical license fee for Washington and other states as required by the program: Not provided by program 
  • DEA registration fees: Not provided by program 
  • Board certification fee (as required by program): Not provided by program 
  • Professional liability coverage: Provided by program for GME duties
  • Society memberships as required by program. IM (AAIM, ACP); FM (AAFP, STFM, FMRD); Peds (APPD): Not provided by program 
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) (pre-approved, conference or educational resources): Not provided by program 
  • White Coat or jacket with residency branding: One every three years provided by program

0.5 FTE – 0.79 FTE

  • Medical license fee for Washington and other states as required by the program: Paid by program 
  • DEA registration fees: Paid by program 
  • Board certification fee (as required by program): Reimbursed by program at 50% 
  • Professional liability coverage: Provided by program for GME duties
  • Society memberships as required by program. IM (AAIM, ACP); FM (AAFP, STFM, FMRD); Peds (APPD): Paid by program
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) (pre-approved, conference or educational resources): 2 days per year conference attendance. Up to $1500 / year CME.
  • White Coat or jacket with residency branding: One every three years provided by program

0.8 FTE – 1.0 FTE

  • Medical license fee for Washington and other states as required by the program: Paid by program 
  • DEA registration fees: Paid by program 
  • Board certification fee (as required by program): Paid by program 
  • Professional liability coverage: Provided by program for GME duties
  • Society memberships as required by program. IM (AAIM, ACP); FM (AAFP, STFM, FMRD); Peds (APPD): Paid by program
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) (pre-approved, conference or educational resources): 5 days per year conference attendance. Up to $2500 / year CME.
  • White Coat or jacket with residency branding: One every three years provided by program

Payment for these items must be in accordance with WSU policies. If possible, they will be paid directly by the program or the GME Office. In the event that expenses are paid by the faculty member, they must be pre-approved and reimbursed following WSU policy and process.
